One day after the Electoral College confirmed his victory as president, Joe Biden will travel to Georgia on Tuesday to campaign for two U.S. Democratic Senate candidates whose January 5 by-elections could jeopardize or ruin his domestic political agenda.
In November’s presidential election, Biden’s defeat in the southern state completed a transformation from a Republican fortress to one of the country’s most competitive political battlefields.
Republican senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler are facing Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, respectively, in a twin race to determine which party controls the U.S. Senate when Biden takes office on Jan. 20.
If Republicans won any contest, they would retain power in the Senate and allow them to undermine many of Biden’s ambitious legislative goals on issues such as the coronavirus, the economy, and climate change. The cleansing of the Democrats would give the party control of the White House and Congress, where it also has a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Biden’s trip to Atlanta takes place nine days after President Donald Trump left for Georgia in support of Perdue and Loeffler. The elected president’s visit also coincides with an early personal vote that began on Monday when hundreds of Georgians wanted rainy weather to stand in line.
As in November, many voters are expected to vote by mail during a coronavirus pandemic. To date, more than 1.2 million residents have requested non-participating ballots, and more than 260,000 have already sent them, according to a U.S. election project at the University of Florida.
Biden’s victory sparked democratic hopes to take both seats, along with aggressive efforts to register voters and change demographics that pushed voters away from Republicans.
November 3 In the election, Perdue overtook Trump, but finished against Ossoff, but only shyly adhered to the 50% needed to prevent the state from leaking. The third-country candidate received about 2% of the vote.
In the next race in November, there were many candidates for special election status as Loeffler was appointed to her seat to fill the vacancy. Warnock and Loeffler finished in the top two, each well behind 50 percent.

Hundreds of millions of dollars entered the state from both political parties and external political groups.
Both sides are facing election activity in the midst of a pandemic and without a polarizing Trump vote at the top to show the voices of his loyal supporters as well as opponents who are strongly opposed.
Some state Republicans have expressed concern that Trump’s repeated demand without evidence that the November results were deceptive could dampen activity among his fiercest supporters.
Biden secured the presidency on Monday when the election college formalized his victory. Under U.S. law, the president is not elected by a popular vote, but by the Electoral College, which, based on the representation of Congress, assigns the election votes to the winner of each state
